50 years old estate vines, dry farmed within view of the Atlantic’s Bay of Biscay - all of the Gañeta vineyards surround the simple stone built winery. Steep hillsides of sand and chalk define the often dreary landscape and the wines from this small town within Getaria tend to show more mineral and saline qualities than anywhere else in the region. A 20-minute drive from San Sebastian, when you arrive in Getaria, if you turn left at Elkano you’ll go past a beautiful bakery towards Ameztoi and Txomin Etxaniz, for example. If you keep going along that coastal road and take the next left, you’ll go up into the windy green roads past Arregi (Julian’s brother) until you reach Gañeta.
