Secret Identity is made to be Iconic Wine's ideal summer rosé. Crisp and refreshing, screw top, and at only around 12.5% alcohol, designed for you to be able to drink a lot on the beach, back porch or any outdoor space. Despite the freshness, it still carries enough fruit to be equally at home with kebabs off the grill once the sun goes down. The name Secret Identity comes from the desire to make the best dry rosé for the buck we can, while not being trapped by tradition. Rather than showcasing a single region or grape, we focus on our ideal balance of fruit and freshness. So while not a secret per se, (we will tell you if you ask nicely) the blend of grapes isn't the focus and may change a bit each year. This year's blend if our most complex yet, blending seven grapes across the Sierra Foothills, Clarksburg and Mendocino. The average vine age is over 20 years old, with a portion nearly 85 years old.
Iconic Wines is the brain child of Birk O'Halloran and Karl Antle. They met in college and quickly became great friends bonding over their mutual love for whiskey, witty banter and all things nerdy.
"Dwarfs standing on the shoulders of giants" is a Western metaphor, one who develops future intellectual pursuits by understanding the research and works created by notable thinkers of the past. This is the founding philosophy of Iconic Wines' Hero Series. They strive to make the best wines possible and do this by enlisting the help of giants in the industry.
Hero Series was envisioned with one idea in mind, to make great wine. The wine industry can be full of dogma and borderline superstition and it can be easy to become trapped in one way of thinking, but by working with talented people from different backgrounds we force ourselves to stay open minded to a variety of production techniques and wine styles. As they expand the series they partner with different wine makers and vineyard managers and hope to apply the lessons learned on one to increase the quality of their wines as a whole. So what makes great wine? They think great wines have balance, focus and complexity while showing a strong connection and pride for the place they come from... also they have to taste yummy.
