Keep it natural, baby.
The 2016 Las Colinas Sonoma Coast Syrah exhibits a youthful bouquet of ripe, dark fruit – blackberry, blueberry, and Japanese plum – which is charmingly confirmed on the palate. Further exploration yields violets intermingling with dried thyme, rosemary, and marjoram, along with a touch of young black peppercorn and olive tapenade. A savory hint of bacon adds intriguing complexity, while modest tannins and earthen components of black truffle and forest floor round out the palate.
The Las Colinas Syrah is indicative of what is possible for cool-climate Syrah as it captures the essence of the western Sonoma Coast appellation. Élevage in 500-liter French oak puncheons helps to preserve fruit and spice, and affords graceful aging in the cellar. A select barrel blend from two top organically farmed, single-vineyard sites – Harrison Grade and Dusty Lane – a sultry inkiness and chewy fine tannin set the stage for present enjoyment or lay-down potential. Always a classic, the 2016 Las Colinas Syrah offers an elegant snapshot of Sonoma Coast Syrah.
Established in 2002 by winegrower and proprietor Eric Sussman, Radio-Coteau works closely with select cool-climate coastal vineyard sites in Western Sonoma County and Anderson Valley to produce wines with vibrant, balanced fruit and a distinct sense of place. Focus is on detailed and sustainable viticulture in conjunction with a natural, non-interventionist approach in the cellar to more accurately reflect the unique character of each site and season. The winery is situated in Sebastopol, and the estate vineyard is located in the hills above Occidental.
